Mentoring

The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. Plouthargos

What is a mentor?

Mentorship is not new, but goes back to Greek mythology.

Mentoor was a Greek hero who, in Homer 's Odysseia, was the elder counselor and faithful friend of Odysseus , who entrusted him with the education of his son Telemachos when he left for Troy .

As an experienced counselor, Mentoor had to pass on his wisdom to Telemachos.

Although this interpretation has changed over time, a number of basic elements have been retained; mentorship is about passing on wisdom and is based on experience.

A mentor is someone who offers information , advice and guidance in a field or discipline in which the mentee has less experience.

A mentor does not chew, but helps you broaden your horizons and shows you that there are more options from which to choose.

In addition, he will help you analyze and value these options so that you can make informed decisions.

He also stimulates you to develop further and can put you in touch with the right people. If necessary, he can give advice on which step to take or which decision to take, but it often turns out that this is no longer necessary because you can choose from the various options yourself.

The biggest advantage of a mentor is that you do not have to reinvent the wheel over and over again and you can draw on previous experiences.

What does a mentoring process look like?

Duration: 12 months

Number of appointments: 2 in the first month, then monthly

Each appointment lasts approximately two hours.

The first appointment is without obligation and aims to see if it 'clicks'.

For a mentoring journey to be successful, it is essential that we both think the same about certain things and understand each other to some extent.

Without that 'click' you will not cooperate fully, so I can help you less than expected.
